The guide
Why Malampuzha Dam and Gardens?
Malampuzha is a dam and garden complex about 10 km from Palakkad, built in the mid-20th century across the Malampuzha river. The gardens are landscaped with fountains, a ropeway, a toy train and a sculpture garden, and the reservoir sits against the backdrop of the Ghats.
It is a domestic family attraction rather than a wilderness experience, and the facilities show their age. Still, it is a pleasant half-day outing, especially for children, and the drive through the Palakkad Gap countryside is attractive. The nearby Malampuzha Yakshi sculpture and the Rock Garden add interest. Avoid weekends and public holidays if you want quiet.
Why go
An easy, green family stop with reservoir views and gardens, close to Palakkad town.
What makes it different
