The guide

Why Vagamon?

Vagamon is a hill station on the border of Idukki and Kottayam districts, known for open grassland, pine forest and a slower, less commercial feel than Munnar. The area is popular with domestic travellers for its viewpoints, trekking and paragliding, but it remains a cluster of small resorts and farms rather than a busy town.

The landscape is different from tea country: rolling meadows, rock outcrops and pine plantations, with the Kurisumala pilgrimage centre on a nearby hill. The climate is cool and misty, and the roads are narrow. Adventure activities depend on weather and certification, so check operators carefully. Vagamon is at its best on foot, with a local guide, and as a quiet base between Thekkady and Kumarakom.
